WelcomeWelcome. My name is Jane Stevens. I am a Registered Nurse Practitioner and Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist. I became interested in Chinese Medicine when patients in my nurse practitioner practice came in with multiple complaints that they were addressing themselves with non-prescribed herbs and vitamins. My patients were taking all sorts of over-the-counter herbs and vitamins in various combinations for their ailments. I knew they were doing harm to their body. I wanted to offer them better ways to improve and maintain their health. I am able to do that with Chinese Medicine. As a practitioner of Chinese Medicine, I view each person as a unique constellation of symptoms not as a disease. Each treatment then, incorporates the mind, the body, and the spirit. Chinese Medicine has been practiced for over 3500 years to address physical, emotional, and psychological problems. The fundamental element in Chinese Medicine is Qi (pronounced "chee"). Qi is your vital energy - your "life force". Qi flows through out the body along pathways called meridians. Neither Qi nor the meridians can be seen, but if these pathways are disrupted the Qi cannot flow smoothly. An imbalance or disruption in Qi causes pain and or disease. Chinese Medicine's most important goal is to provide balance and harmony to the body's Qi. Chinese Medicine is a widely accepted treatment option. In 1997, the World Health Organization recognized Chinese Medicine's effectiveness for more than 40 common disorders. Chinese Medicine works to boost the immune system, regulate hormones, increase energy, and reduce stress. |
